A shareholder since 1985, Mr. Davenport is a member of the litigation practice group, and currently serves on the firm’s management committee. He has more than 30 years’ experience defending corporations, insurance companies, and individuals in a broad spectrum of complex legal matters including property and casualty, legal malpractice, medical malpractice, and products liability.

Mr. Davenport has tried over 125 jury trials, successfully defending electric cooperatives throughout Alabama, insurance companies in bad faith litigation, corporations in product liability cases, attorneys, insurance agents and medical professionals in professional liability cases, construction cases ranging from private residents to utility plants, and corporations and municipalities in various types of litigation.

Mr. Davenport is the author of Alabama Automobile Insurance Law, a treatise that is widely recognized as the foremost resource on this area of the law, and he continues to regularly defend automobile liability cases.  A recognized expert in uninsured/underinsured motorist cases, he has defended these cases and also served as an expert witness.

Practice Highlights

Evans Bailey and Ron Davenport recently won a summary judgment in the Middle District of Alabama on behalf of their client, an insurer, in a coverage dispute involving UM/UIM benefits. The district court agreed with Evans and Ron’s position that there was no coverage for UM/UIM benefits because the proposed insured was not a “resident relative” of the policy holder.  State Farm Mut. Auto. Ins. Co. v. Bieber, No. 2:15-CV-475-KS-GMB, 2016 WL 3672216 (M.D. Ala. 2016)

Argued and won summary judgment for City of Phenix City on case involving sewer impact fees

Argued and won summary judgment for Safeco Insurance Company on uninsured motorist issues

Defended attorney on malpractice charges; plaintiffs asked jury to award $300,000, jury returned verdict for $3,000

Received defense verdict for State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company on underinsured motorist case

Obtained summary judgment in favor of a national property insurance carrier in a case involving the April 27, 2011 tornadoes

He has been recognized by his peers as one of Alabama’s Super Lawyers (2009 and 2010) and Best Lawyers in America (2005–2015).

A Hugo Black Scholar at the University of Alabama School of Law, Mr. Davenport has been AV peer review rated by Martindale-Hubbell for more than 26 years.

Business Alabama magazine has again recognized Mr. Davenport as one of the Top Attorneys in Alabama for 2011.

Mr. Davenport was selected for inclusion in the 2012 edition of Alabama Super Lawyers for Civil Litigation Defense: Business Litigation and Professional Liability: Defense. 

He has also been selected for inclusion in the 2013 edition of Alabama Super Lawyers for Civil Litigation Defense.
 

Community Involvement

Mr. Davenport is a member of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery. He has coached little league baseball for 12 years, and he also volunteers for the YMCA, where he has coached youth basketball for six years.
