Mrs. Nelson joined Rushton Stakely in April 2019 and is based in the firm’s Birmingham office.

Her practice with Rushton Stakely focuses primarily on commercial real estate, and includes the representation of developers and lenders in a variety of commercial transactions. Previously, Mrs. Nelson has routinely advised clients on a broad spectrum of business and real estate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, real property sales and acquisitions, governance, and financing.

Mrs. Nelson received her law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University (cum laude, 2001). She received her M.B.A from Brock School of Business at Samford University (2001), and her B.A. from Auburn University (magna cum laude, in International Business, 1998).

Prior to joining Rushton Stakely, Mrs. Nelson practiced with the law firm of Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O’Neal LLP in Birmingham, beginning as an Associate in 2001 and becoming Partner in 2008, before withdrawing in July 2016 to take an in-house position. While with Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O’Neal LLP, Mrs. Nelson acted on behalf of the firm as outside general counsel to a longtime large industrial client for a three year period of time. In the in-house position, Mrs. Nelson worked in the mortgage loans department of a company in Birmingham assisting from a legal counsel perspective with the making of loans by the company to a specific non-residential housing market.

Recent Practice Highlights

Representation in a loan to a single purpose entity for refinancing of a housing facility in the principal amount of $36,000,000, which included the subsequent assumption of such loan by the original borrower and certain tenants in common in connection with a 1031 exchange.

Representation in a loan to three different single purpose entities for the purchase of two different housing facilities and refinancing of a third in the aggregate principal amount of over $41,000,000.

Acted as outside general counsel in the representation of the subsidiary of the industrial company in a $3,250,000 purchase of real estate.

Representation of a small privately held company in the $3,300,000 sale of a parcel of real estate in downtown Birmingham.

Representation of industrial company in the $92,145,000 asset acquisition of another industrial company.

Representation of industrial company in the $4,055,000 stock acquisition of another industrial company.
